I went to a funeral recently where an 80 year old woman told me that she was getting used to her friends dying. The context was the funeral of her 49 year old daughter and, it goes without saying, she could not, ever, get used to that. It seems, however, that I have seen entirely too many parents at the funerals of their own children, and I fear that I too will become "used to my friends dying," but at far too young an age.
