Our bodies developed a gland, a very special gland indeed -- The Pancreas... The turbocharger, the juice that could be the difference between life or death. All the time, even at rest, the brain is on constant alert. Always watching for the slightest hint of danger - whether it be a lion in the bushes or pterodactyls swooping out of the light fixtures. When the brain acknowledges the possible presence of trouble, it sends a message to the reasoning center to be scared ... If there is no danger, we just write it off as a flash of paranoia.
